Round Robin–Round 1

The first bracelet I received has “By the Sea” as the theme. The bracelet is silver and the findings must be silver on this one. The first thing I did was make a flexible mold of a real, dried starfish. The starfish is about an inch in diameter. It made a really good mold. Easy Cast Clear Casting Epoxy is a really easy-to-use two-part resin.I wanted to use faux pearl beads on the starfish. This is my first attempt. Unfortunately, the coating came off of one of the beads and I tried to paint it with Lumiere paint. It looks okay, but not something I want to send to someone else.

I also tried adding color to the resin and using alcohol ink dyed beads, but it didn’t quite fit with the feel of the bracelet. The natural resin color worked better.

Alternate starfish charms

Left to right:  1. Actual dried starfish, coated with resin with dyed pearl beads; 2. Lightly colored resin; 3. Heavily color resin with alcohol ink dyed pearl beads; 4. Natural resin

This is the charm I added to the bracelet and will send. I’m pleased with how it turned out.
