Altered Book with Drawers–Romantic Era, continued

Finally made some progress on the altered books. Drawers have been made for both books and the frame has been cut from one of the book covers. Also made the diagonal cuts on one of the books.

Altered book blocks with cover

The frBookcover with frame cut outame in the front of the book cover is the size of an ATC, not deliberate, just happened that way. I’ve chosen the picture that will go behind it. That needs to be sprayed with a sealer and put somewhere where 1) it’s protected and 2) I can find it when I’m ready for it. A hole was punched in one of the frame corners, so I could thread the saw blade thru it. It would have made it easier to turn the corners if a hole had been punched closer to all 4 corners.

Book #1

Both books are about 1-1/4” thick, so the drawers will be about the same depth. The cover size of Book #1 is approximately 8” x 5-1/2”. The drawer is about 6-1/4” x 4-7/16” x 1-1/8”. This drawer will be glued to the altered spine of the book and pull out that direction.

2nd book with drawer

Book #2

The cover size of Book #2 is approximately 7-1/8” x 4-7/8”. The drawer is about 5-5/16” x 3-7/8” x 1. This drawer will be glued to the front pages and pull out in that direction. The miter cuts on the book block aren’t precisely corner to corner–but it should be okay. It might hide the drawer pull better. The drawer itself–well, don’t know what happened here. I measured and measured and cut and fit each piece individually. It isn’t even on two sides and measures and extra (or short) 1/8″. It still might work, though depending on how it pulls. The angle of the book block may be such that it fills the cavity correctly.
